Home of the Brave is currently the number-one-best-seller in the historical fiction genre on Smashwords where it has pushed Land of the Free into the number two slot.
Way to go Jeff. Hope the Kindle sales start to see the same result. I know some authors claim they get no sales on Smashwords, but I believe that is due to no promotion of their content there (it's a vast catalog and easy to be lost in the clutter). To get the free copy of the book (and a coupon on Gone for a Soldier), see this post on my blog: http://booksontheknob.blogspot.com/2010/02/free-book-home-of-brave.html

Both Kindle and Smashwords sales are very good, thanks. Most of my Smashwords sales come from your web site or mine. I don't know where the Kindle sales come from. Home of the Brave started selling before I even knew it was up on Amazon.

I like to support my favorite authors. If it was a McMillan $14.99 I might have opted for a free one but can't not buy it at so reasonable a price.

If it was a MacMillan, Jeff probably wouldn't be allowed to offer free copies. I got my copy through Amazon because I'm afraid of deleting my copy accidentally. Besides, as you say Leo, it's a reasonable price to pay to support one of my favorite authors.

If it was a MacMillan I wouldn't have any say-so in the matter. Thanks for buying my book, Margaret. Now get back to work.

Another great trailer. The music is excellent. I'm getting addicted to these things.

Thanks, Karen. Maybe I should push out my Civil War book, Johnny Comes Marching Home, instead of the Delta Force, La Malinche prequel.
150 years isn't that long. My great-grandmother used to sing "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" to me. She was 5 years old when the war ended.

I never really talked about that with my great-grandmother, but suspect she was about same age. She still cooked on her woodstove until she died (I was about high school age).
I suspect more modern warfare may sell better -- action and thrills vs. a history lesson -- but a well researched book may have longer legs and be more fun to write.
